Brief introduction of Wireless Ad Hoc Network

- Mar 01, 2019-

The wireless ad hoc network (WANET) or  Mobile ad hoc network(MANET) is a technology different from traditional wireless communication network.

Traditional wireless cellular communication network needs fixed network equipment such as base station to transmit data and manage user service. The wireless ad hoc network does not need the support of fixed devices. Each node, that is user terminal, forms its own network. When communicating, data is forwarded by other user nodes. This form of network not only breaks through the geographical limitations of traditional wireless cellular network, but also can be deployed more quickly, conveniently and efficiently. The wireless ad hoc network (WANET) is a better choice for communication in some emergency situations, such as disaster relief, single-soldier communication system.

The wireless ad hoc network (WANET) is a multi-hop mobile peer-to-peer network composed of tens to hundreds of nodes, which adopts wireless communication and dynamically networking. Its functions are to transmit multimedia information flow with QoS guarantees through dynamic routing and mobile management technology. Usually nodes have a continuous energy supply.

The wireless ad hoc network (WANET) has many advantages, though, there are still some aspects to be improved, such as limited network bandwidth, poor support for real-time services and low security.

At present, a large number of researchers in China and other countries abroad have been devoting themselves to improve these items.
